Manners?

A good friend visited me a few days back. Along with her came her 7-year-old daughter. As we were sitting in the living-room, the child got up and started roaming around the place. I thought she was getting restless sitting for long, and wanted to stretch her legs.
After about 10 minutes I heeded towards the kitchen to check if the domestic-maid had prepared the snacks and the tea for the guests. As I crossed my bedroom, I happened to glance inside and what I saw irritated me.
The child was at the dressing-table, had opened the drawer and was using my comb!
When we were children, our parents, grandparents and teachers had taught us never to touch things that did not belong to us. They had said that manners are important in life.

Small children by themselves do not distinguish between our's and other's.They have no guiles until taught by elders of acceptable behavious outside their homes.I have seen children handling expensive and fragile works of art in friends'homes with their moms remaining calm and proud without an admonition to their wards and oblivious to the trepidation of hosts.I would put the blame primarily on the parents

Hey Ayesha!!! Glad to see you back!
Yes manners are important coz they give us a strong foundation.but Kids have this facination with dressing tables and things kept on them, its the way they like things but if dealt with love they do understand the difference between good and bad :)

It is very annoying. And its important that parents and elders inculcate good manners and etiquette at an early stage lest the child grows up with the same causing embarassment to himself/herself and to others.A thought provoking post.

Indeed, your complaint is so genuine. I too in my childhood was told by my Mom not to touch others' things. But the scenario has changed altogether now...I don't think it is for good..but let's hope things get better :)
