A Time For Oneself

-by Ayesha Parveen 13 Sep 2008 Category: Lifestyle
This story has been read 71 times.
After the hassles of a day spent
In struggles of all sorts,
We crave peace;
Where is peace to be found?

Pleasing the people around us,
Doing things not akin to our nature,
We want to be content;
How is contentment to be found?

False smiles, false words, false friends, false lovers;
We know it all and yet tolerate,
Expecting to be loved.
Why is love to be found?

Deep within us is a place we dare not visit now;
A place full of peace, contentment and love;
A land of liberty and of joy:
The wise call it freedom of conscience.

If we are brave enough to reach that land,
The shackles all break free;
We can touch the sunrise and smile like children,
Daring to love and trust again.

Leaving behind the pain and hurt,
Discarding all that we know is sham,
We need to move on with faith and hope,
For now is the time, a time for oneself.

Well conveyed, this is the truth that man seeks, and yet does not find, all within himself, he seeks outside, failiing to see, the cause of unhappiness stares him in the eye ;-) Great Ayesha, keep writing, your stories inspire me!!

A message of deep import has been so nicely conveyed through this beautiful poem that we only look inwards to get what we seek.Ayesha,keep writing lots of such poems.

A beautifully written poem that touches the soul literally. It makes one realize that its essential to make time for oneself else they tend to lose themselves in the erractic lifestyles and bustling crowds. I always believe that while one should reach out to others in the society its equally if not more to get in touch with their soul.

Swetha,

You are correct to say we need to first stay connected to ourselves before we can genuinely reach out to others.
Thanks for your comment.

Thank you for mentioning freedom of conscience; most people seem to have forgotten it totally. Your first poem in the blog is very beautifully written. Along with short-stories, you should also continue to write poems.

Nabadipa,

Thank you for your comment. Yes, conscience should never be compromised, because if it is, we are left with nothing with which we can claim our humanity.

I definitely plan to write more poems.
