What drives an apparently successful person to kill himself? By 'successful', I mean that by social yardsticks: money, mate, status, looks, popularity.
I feel that a person can kill himself only if he feels life is not worth living. So, inspite of havings all the trappings of success, such people are not comfortable with themselves. No amount of earthly success can guarantee happiness, if self-esteem is low.
When a person does his best and is not impatient or greedy for result, when one makes decisions based on his conscience and common-sense and does not succumb to the opinions of others, he does not kill himself.
Life is both a test and a gift. One ought to respect and cherish it.

It is only cowards who take their lives out. They have low self esteem as you have said with no guts to face life.
life is gift of god! we must cherish it! rightly said!

Nice article..
//Life is both a test and a gift.//
100% true..
Those are some very inpirational and important lines Ayesha, thanks for sharing..what one must pray for instead of other materail stuff is peace of mind...if we at peace with ourselves we would survive every odd situation in life.
Thats a wonderful thought Ayesha :)
Its a pity many see suicide as the ultimate solution when its now. True life has its downfalls but isnt that a test that any mortal is bound to face? Lot of individuals tend to put pressure on themselves and feel they cannot cope up with life eventually and choose to end it. Sad but true.:(
@ KParthasarathi:
Thanks a lot, KP, for your comment. We all, more or less, face situations when life becomes unbearable. But, if we do our duty as best as possible, something beautiful emerges even from the pain. There is no need to kill oneself.
Moreover, even spiritually-speaking, suicide is one of the worst sins possible.
@ Paramveer:
Thanks a lot, friend.

@ A New Beginning:
Hey, Sana, thanks a lot for the appreciation.
Best wishes.
Also is not suicide a kind of cowardice , escapism?
Well there are exceptions where and when people have taken their lives in valour.
But as you rightly noted material benefits are relative and will sometimes prove trivial that extreme actions are taken. Hence suicide.
@ Whirlwind:
Swetha, thanks a lot for your comment. From my own life I have seen that no matter how unfair or painful an experience is, if a person does not lose faith, he manages to deal with it and comes out of it, a stronger person.
Best wishes..
@ Anilkurup:
Thanks a lot for your comment. Yes, suicide can be said to be an act of cowardice. It is primarily an act of loss of faith, in oneself and in the Almighty.
Best wishes.
